I took the 14 youngsters, including a couple that are just finishing squeaking, along with 7 old hens that I want to send this week, for their first trainer this morning.
I went early but when I got there it was still very misty and cloudy. I waited for 10 minutes but then decided I wasn’t going to chance it and brought them back home. Buy the time I got home it was starting to brighten up. So I left them in the car. Had a cup of tea and a bit of breakfast. Then cleaned the loft out and put a bit of food down. I then decided to give it another go. When I got to the Gillingham and Shaftesbury show ground, 9 miles as the crow flys, it was quite clear. I let them all go together at 8.35. They came out well and I never saw them again. The youngsters were very calm in the basket considering it was the first time they had been in it.
I got home at just after 9.00. There was no sign of them. Then at 9.10 they all turned up together. I am 1 youngster missing. A horrible red chequer, so not worried about that one.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
That’s good Andy a couple more and your get them to about a mile a min none of that roaming the countryside from training not for sprint races
It’s nice to get the first toss out the way
I hope the horrible red chequer, returns for you Andy. It may be the ugly one but end up being a prince or princes. Always be ready for one out of the blue.

Would the ybs not just be lead by the hens though Andy and not really having to do the thinking

Possibly Neil. I had intended on separate libs but as time was getting on and I had to get back to open the shop I let them go together.
The hens were just given this one trainer before this weekends race as they haven’t been in a basket since last season. From now on the youngsters will be trained on their own as the old birds won’t get anymore training,
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
