I had one of our customers come in the shop yesterday and couldn’t really believe what she said. She has been coming in to the shop for sometime now. She has a dog and feeds it on raw food. We stock a range of frozen raw food and it is very popular. The customer had taken her dog to the vet for a check up. The vet was pleased with the condition of the dog until our customer told the vet that she was fed on raw food. The vet couldn’t believe that the dog would be fed on a raw diet. The vet said she was going to have to wash her hands and wouldn’t touch the dog again saying that dogs weren’t designed to eat raw food and they could catch e-coli, salmonella, etc from eating raw food. Our customer said that she had never heard that before and asked what they are designed to eat. Does a dog who catches a rabbit have to cook it before eating it lol. The vet told her that all the vets in the surgery agreed that dogs aren’t designed to eat raw food. Our customer told her that she was talking rubbish and she wouldn’t be using them again.
It is a complete joke that we have to deal with idiot vets like that that haven’t got a clue what their talking about and try to impose their views on feeding on others when they don’t know what they’re talking about.
Vets are a joke
Unbelievable Andy, I've never heard anything like it !! Thats why they have incisors, canines and two sets of molars, there jaws are designed to strip meat from the bone and then to crunch bone and get to the marrow !! How do they think wild dogs survive ?? I know loads of people who feed raw meat, if you are feeding meat on the bone it is supposed to be raw, that way the bones don't splinter. My old Springer spaniel would eat anything he could get hold of lol.
The frightening thing is that these are supposedly trained and well educated people
the trouble is that it's all about finance again, and they want to push food that they get funding from.

Sadies Lofts home of decent birds just a useless loft manager, and now a confirmed loser but proud

Usually Royal Canin. Which isn’t that good anyway, and expensive, but they no longer sell to wholesalers so you have to buy it from the vets or online. Royal Canin also sponsor vets through college, surprise, surprise.Buster121 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 9:16 pmYour last sentence says it allTrev wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 9:09 pm Unbelievable Andy, I've never heard anything like it !! Sorry but having dealt with vets for most of my working life especially while farming I wouldn’t give most the time of day. I have only come across a handful of decent vets over the past 45+ years.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
That is part of the problem mate. These dogs fed on these cheap, mainly vegetable based feeds, have no natural immunity. Our Jack Russell is 16 years old, fed on a high meat content feed and hasn’t been wormed for years.

my daughter feeds our blue on venison raw.
Fact number one about vets. They are in business.Andy wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 8:14 pm I had one of our customers come in the shop yesterday and couldn’t really believe what she said. Fact number two, they really only have two course of action for most animals presented. Antibiotics or anti inflammatories. Andy would know that from the dairy farming days.
When I said that to a vet once he went red and stuttered, before admitting that was right. They have a license to print money.
The processed food is a side scam. And wrong. Most cats and dogs presenting with kidney problems have been fed dry food. Which was bought from the vet. So they are creating the problem that they then charge you to solve.
Unbelievable.
