As the others have said, a small shed is a better bet, as you can be in with them. Having said that, a kit box will let you start with a few youngsters, and having started you can go from there.

Thing with that Murray there is only a small budget so would have to move up bigger following year or the next one, so doubling the budget

So true. But how many have started with a pair of pigeons in a box, and progressed to being a successful fancier.
My view is, if you have a few pigeons, you are a fancier. and the sky is the limit.

Hi I’m thinking of having ago at racing again, ive attached a loft on my post so you can give me your views on if I can use it for young birds because that’s all I will fly next year. What are your thoughts on the loft please? I’m only on a small budget

I believe to chap that won the nrcc last year races to kit box’s type loft can’t think of his name Matthew something
Also I think George Davidson in tne unc raced his ybs to a kit box type design

Only downside is the rain when feeding etc

I knew a bloke who moved into a new house and while he was building his loft had about a dozen boxes along his back fence with a pair in each. He won a couple of races that year too.

Back when our Mum and Dad first met Mum decided she wanted to have a few pigeons, so Mum being Mum built herself a little loft using Orange boxes stacked on top of each other, each one housed one pair of pigeons. She raced to them for fun before they got married.
I know some fanciers are turning to that style of loft now due to pigeon fanciers lung, it minimises the exposure to dust etc. Obviously as others have said, not much fun in the rain but if it was the only way that I could keep pigeons I'd definitely do it.
At the end of the day, if the birds feel safe and are happy in their environment they will race to pretty much anything.
Ian Crammond and Nigel Langstaff had an amazing set up in Fontwell and excelled in National and classic racing, but I understand that one of their best achievements was by a pigeon raced natural to a pretty much broken down garden shed where they kept half a dozen pairs.
In my opinion it's about how you keep and treat your birds, not what you keep them in !!

Looks quite a nice and relaxed set up that does
