I use a lot of Barley in fact once racing finishes and I've used up all surplus mixes they get 100% barley and they will moult fantastic on it, just don't believe anyone who says they won't get fat on it, trust me if you're not careful they'll end up right porkers

Pigs get fat on it
I think people confuse them getting fat if left to eat what they want like you say against using as a guide to when they have had enough mixture that’s why people say they won’t get fat
But in January mine eat loads of left to eat what they want of it

I myself have never bought a bag of corn with the words moulting on it. Birds will moult on nearly ANY corn. I just feed the same corn when the birds are moulting. I think fanciers get too hung up on what the birds do naturally. I'd back my birds in any show against those who spend £s on 'special mixes' and supplements to help their birds though the moult.

It is also used to speed up the molting process, by feeding only barley for a few days...the birds that are still prepared to breed will lose their drive and go into molt.

To be honest Neil, i never used barley myself, i would always use this mix.

Neil, my own thoughts on feeding the birds. It's a 365 day sport, so i have always used the best nutrition. For racing, resting, molting and breeding, but that was just my way. Others may differ and that is their choice.
