Not just this bird of Devo so I’m
Not singling it out
But would a pigeon say out of a uk double fed winner or say a pair that bred two fed winners not be Valued more rather than a pedigree that last 6 pigeons jn the ped only one has bred something and what we don’t know yet
Are we not just going back generations and seeing names that excite us and clouding our judgement

Give you a example I have a cock 5 club wins 2 fed wins bred me a fed winner in his first 8 eggs paired to a daughter of his gsire that won 3x1st fed For shane Langton paired to a daughter of a hen that bred me 5 fed winners from my mate Richy Herron full sister to a treble fed winner for Richy
Now that’s a FVW x Wade brothers X FVW x zwols
So worth 10p on Elimar
But I know what I would pick

I guess what you're talking about here Neil is "fashion", "commercialism" and "marketing"

And you know what, it's always been there in pigeons for as long as I can remember

I'm 54 now and my first visit to Belgium pigeon lofts was back in 1980

Who out of us never went to Louella back in the day on coach trips?

All that's changed is "the internet"

This has brought it all out in the open - staring us in the face and within easy reach of our fingertips

If you're so minded you can enter One Loft Races around the world and pigeons are transported all over, all the time now

Not saying it’s a new thing Mike
I well remember the verheye pigeons at Louella which I wanted as a boy so I’m guilty anyone today but just think it’s strange how we do it
I remember Anthony Webster use to say he wanted 4 winners in tne first two lines of any pedigree but not many seem to
worry about that

Why not devo ?
I’m not just saying this pigeon I mean any pigeon
Totally get the hope is like race horses the blood comes through but just seems that big names even further back in the ped are important than say UK actual winners at the front of the ped

I agree with Tony

As a racer I wanna see as many "good birds" as close up in the pedigree as possible

Problem is we all have our own definition of what we think a good bird is

I'm looking for multi-performers, not something that just comes once - and then I want them to breed their like

Neil, i keep saying we all have different views on each subject. and that is your view. Many people dont look at a pedigree, they may be fancy names in the sport. But the sport has moved on, and so it should.
It would be great to buy a bird very close to the tree, but that comes at a price. A price that some cannot afford, so i like to think outside the box. And look for something of value for some, i have spent money in the past.
On good quality birds, and had great joy in breeding. But those days have gone, so what joy i get now. i would say it is different to some other members. You seek, you like and you buy.

I agree totally with what you’re saying Neil. I also know which I would rather have. You might just as well buy a lottery ticket and hope to win the lottery as opposed to buying some of these pigeons being offered. Then people wonder why so much rubbish is being bred. The only way to prove any pigeon for either racing or breeding is by testing it. I’ve have had many pigeons over the years that have won or bred winners that have no real pedigree to them. When I have had the odd pigeon with a supposedly good pedigree I have generally been disappointed with their performances. My best pigeons over the years both breeding and racing have come from a mixture of pigeons selected from my own loft from birds that I have tested. It’s not always the ones you think will be good either.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.

That about sums it up.

I'm all for a bargain George

That's why I just sorted Neil out with 8 x 2025 YB to race from one of the best breeding hens in the UK

Price? About a bag of corn each

Can't be bad
