My first pigeon this week was hawked from the first race and came back with just 2 tail feathers. She has now regrown her tail too about three quarters in length. I was in two minds about sending her as being natural she is a little bit bald around the head with her ears slightly showing and into a headwind I wasn’t sure how she would do but it didn’t seem to bother her. My second bird only has 2 flights to go but is in good body feather.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
Well done Andy, I'd say that's a pretty good result considering how many you sent, they could have easily been dragged down west but obviously broke out before going too far. What was the overall birdage in each Andy ?? The velocities would suggest that the West in the wind had dropped a bit by the time the WOESRC birds were liberated.Andy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 9:18 pm After not racing last weekend yesterday I sent to Stoney Cross 34 miles with the 3 counties. Our club are only flying in the 3 counties this year as trainers but hoping join them next season. As a club we also fly in the West of England South Road Combine. They were also at Stoney Cross this weekend. A couple of members sent to both but 3 of us only sent with the 3 counties. So we had 5 members sending 101 birds. This is our club result.

I wasn’t too disappointed with my 4 this week. They were a bit behind but I had all 4 of mine long before the other 4 members got all theirs. Also although Dave & John had 3 before me out of their 26 they had to wait 25 minutes between their 3rd and 4th bird. There were some big gapes between pigeons.
As can be seen I fly 7 miles short of Dave & Kim who although fly around the same distance there is about 6 miles between them South to North. Nigel and Ank fly 16 miles further than me. Some members in the 3 counties were flying over 100 miles in this race. We are the shortest flying club in both the 3 counties and the WOESRC.
The strange thing is that the 3 counties were liberated at 6.55am with our clubs winning velocity being 1155ypm. The WOESRC were liberated at 8.30am with our clubs winning velocity being 1390ypm. Both races won by Dave & John Staddon. I think one main difference is the drag. With the 3 counties a lot of pigeons are going well to the South of us flying down into Devon and Cornwall. Where as the combine pigeons are going well North of us up into Bristol.
Next week I am sending again with the 3 counties to Reading. The combine are yet again at Stoney Cross.
She did well Andy, were the other 3 cocks or hens ??Andy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 9:24 pm My first pigeon this week was hawked from the first race and came back with just 2 tail feathers. A very difficult day here. Our birds were at Chale on the IOW. The midlands national were also there.
Our birds were finally liberated at 10.15 after apparently waiting for mist to clear on route. By this t most of the blue sky that had been at Chale had gone and it was almost full cloud cover. The convoyer said it started raining 10 minutes after lib. The Midlands NFC held over. The wind was given as a light ENE which should have given a reasonably quick race. But wasn’t to be. I only sent 4 and didn’t get my first one until 12.35, a blue pied son off of one from Buster. Second 10 minutes later was a blue chequer hen from Trev. I haven’t yet seen the other 2. Mine were pretty much par for the course although as always there were a few that got through earlier. Returns weren’t good. Most only had half back. One of our members didn’t get any out of 6. In the combine one member only got 2/34 and another was wiped out.
This is the combine result.
This is our combine result. Our club took top honours again and we are sitting top of the combine league table. 400ypm though between 1 & 50.

Well done Andy
As you say a difficult day all round again as those velocities show, those birds that made it did well, hopefully others will turn up during the day Chale can be a dodgy liberation site.
Dave and John Staddon were well out in front again.
