Loft Location.

Hi all, got a bit of a predicament where I have to re position my loft in my small garden.
Its new position goes against everything I have read but I have no choice if I want to keep my birds. However, I have one thing that I do have a choice with which I hope you all can help with.
The first thing is - it will have to face NE.
Next is that it will surrounded by trees, including partial cover of the roof (inset into a run of Leylandi trees with the back hard up against the trunks)
So, natural light in the loft is not very good and I would like to put some clear sheets in the roof at the front to bring in smore light and extra warmth come spring. The problem is I have a street light immediatly behind the loft which will light up the inside of the loft at night if I put clear sheets on the top. which I guess would give me problems with the moult.
So my question is, should I use clear sheets in the roof or not?
I Know this is where I can get the best advice and thank you all in advance.

the problem you will have Dave is in the breeding hens will leave the nest in the night if light stays on you may be ok i was caught out by this lost ybs in the night others may say it don't matter just what i found

Can you not fit ply sliders inside the loft so before they come on you slide them and cut the light out from the street lights
My widowhood shed faces west it’s the only way I could do it the front must be 70 percent inch thick polycarbonate I have never found it cold in there
When I eventually build a new loft I would have always have more polycarbonate than wood in it
I just used the green house stuff that you mix with water to stain it so it’s not clear when I fitted it it’s a milky white stain really

Dave, could you put a photo up of the garden, And the space you have to play with. better ideas may come forward.

If you go into full editor at bottom of reply box you will see a box just below saying attachments click on that then follow instructions, not exactly instructions but you will see what I mean

If it's light enough for them to leave the nest, it will be light enough for them to return to the nest.
