Who didn't know him, Siegfried Scharf, the "jack of all trades" from Bochum. Successful businessman in various industries, passionate and successful horse breeder and an even more passionate and equally successful racing pigeon breeder.
We all know him well as a volunteer auctioneer at the DBAs for the auctions initiated by his friend Prof. Dr. Kohaus in aid of the "Aktion Sorgenkind" and later "Aktion Mensch". His pithy sayings such as "Shall we do it again?", "It's only a hundred more", "Your luck lies in my hammer" etc. with his clear and distinct voice in the halls that were often full to the last seat are still fondly remembered by all of us. Not least because of this, he was awarded honorary membership of the Association of German Racing Pigeon Breeders a few years ago.
Siegfried Scharf was determined and ambitious not only in his career, but also in equestrian sport and of course in the sport we are talking about here, our racing pigeon sport. He was always looking for the best. There was hardly a top loft in Europe that he did not visit. As one of the first German breeders, he was a regular guest of the then legendary Janssen brothers in Arendonk/Belgium and many a pigeon moved from there to Bochum. The list continues with Belgian and Dutch top lofts such as Eijerkamp, G. Vandenabeele, Leo Heremans etc. In addition, of course, there are all the top lofts in Germany etc.
This list could go on and on. Recently, the "Leidemann" pigeons have been on everyone's lips. Of course, Siegfried Scharf has stocked up on the best here too.
Together with his long-time friend Willi Grafenhain, who also accompanied him professionally for more than 40 years, he has really shaken up the competition here in the Ruhr area. Numerous championships and personal bests, first bankruptcies at all levels speak for themselves. This year, he will also add a few regional victories and championships.

On May 8, shortly after his 80th birthday, which he duly celebrated with his friends, Siegfried Scharf died suddenly and unexpectedly.
