Ah, but you were out in the dark at 6 am. I did it for years until I retired at the beginning of the year. We do it because it's what we do.
What motivates us? Simple.
We are are pigeon racers.

Self motivation starts at a very young age, and should be used in every stage in life. If you want to beat the best, you have to beat the rest. When you go down the marking station, take a good look around.

Now it's getting light in the morning down under, I have a Banjo waking me up for breakfast before 6, and he has an audience. So I am still out in the shed early.
I don't mind. I spent years looking forward to being able to spend time with my pigeons with no time clock. Now I can. it just still starts early, which is good. :D
