Not long off breeding season, i have used this product before. What are members thoughts on using pellets, i know this product comes at a price. But i think it is well worth the price i would pay.

Feeding advice:

. Gradually (a week to 10 days is usually sufficient) replace 1/4 to 1/3 of your normal mix of pigeon feed with P40 Pigeon food

. Fresh drinking water and grit should be available at all times

. Feed P40 Pigeon food all year round, but make the mix a little richer if you think your pigeons need it e.g.

- a few days before mating

- while rearing young

- during moulting

- before and after a long flight

. Since the composition of P40 Pigeon food makes it an ideal supplement, you can simply feed a basic mixture of healthy corn, beans and/or peas. 2 to 3 parts mixed with 1 part P40 Pigeon food will give excellent results.

. Young pigeons grow faster thanks to P40 Pigeon food and often have to be ringed a few days earlier.

. No need to add vitamin preparations.

P40 Pigeon food is ideal for periods of extreme exertion.

Ingredients:

I just use a percentage of chicken pellets they are about 17 per cent protein
I feed them before I go to work so the parents digest them quick to pump the babies normally with some fat energy mix stuff I know they will eat instantly
Then they have beans in front of them all day and at night I feed a breed and wean type mix something with no tic beans so they eat again

Pellets are fine, I've seen blokes use them and have good results. I can't say I could notice any difference between those babies and mine that were raised in a mixture.
I have a couple of reservations, the first being you cant actually see what's in them. The second being I have seen the pellets in the bottom of a bag and they had gone dry and crumbly, there was a lot of dust. I wonder how long they last before they get 'old'. I am suspicious of soya bean meal. It goes rancid quite quickly.

What think ye of these, then?
I was out putting a clean nest bowl under these babies and remembered your comment. They are huge and the parents are pumping then so full that I have had to change the nest bowl daily, as the rim and all down the sides is 'not very nice'.
They have had no very expensive additives, just grain, grit some veggies and a bit of garlic. Yet I did have to put the rings on them very early and they are much bigger than the other two pairs hatched the same day.
I agree with Andy. There are people in the sport who never miss a chance to make a quid,.

Looking great Murray. If the pigeons can’t rear healthy youngsters without any medication or additives needing to be used then they shouldn’t be being bred from.
