She was a very good hen. The sire had flown Thurso 530 miles as a yearling for a friend in Godalming, Surrey. He was packing up and I brought him as a 2 year old for the princely sum of £10. I was in Sussex then. He moved with me 4 times and was broken out every time. The dam was a gift bird from a fellow club member in Cornwall.

Was you farming in Bodmin ?
Yes I was Neil. I was the herd manager on the Llanhydrock estate. We were milking 360 cows 3 times a day. We had one of the best, highest milking herds in the country. Taken from a herd of 120 average milking cows when I went there to what it was when I left to farm on my own 6 years later. Also done quite a bit of showing with them down there too.

It is a lovely area. Pigeon racing is difficult down there as Bodmin is just the other side of Bodmin moor and the birds rarely came over the moors. They would either go around to the North or South through Exeter or Plymouth. Also of course because of the prevailing SW winds usually into a head wind. But I loved the years I spent down there not only the job itself but also the people, and of course the surfing.
