Life in St Arnaud
I've had an unpleasant experience.
I've been getting the stock birds out and flying one at a time, just putting them on the sputnik and they hop back in, then over a few days they start flying around and away they go.
Yesterday I put the Billion Baby out again. She hopped over onto the Gordon box then flew down and was hanging on the sputnik flapping. I stepped toward her and she took off! I immediately put three others out to try and round her up. I short time later I saw her go over with the two old hens. But then they came back without her.
This morning there was no sign of her and it was like the loft was half empty. She's only small, but she is the boss lady.
I was trying to keep my spirits up and then... she was on the roof!
I admit I broke into tears
Over a pigeon!
The Big Grizzle was feeding their big babies and looking dead worried. You should have seen him when she got back.

Warm here. At 2 pm it's just ticked over 39c. They predict about 40.
I have 1.5 litre bottles of water in the freezer getting cold and the ice trays are full. I'll empty and refill all the drinkers with cold water and ice cubes in a little while.
I put the baths in the sputnik earlier and they thought that was alright
Got a single youngster I've just weaned off Roadrunner and the Trillian baby. Lovely one, pretty sure it's a hen. When they were finished I popped it in the water, it liked that!
There's a good breeze out there blowing in the back vent, it is really quite a bit cooler in the loft than outside. That works

Good that you are still managing to get new birds broken to your loft Murray.
Our weather over here is awful. So much wind and rain. I know it’s our winter but that should mean cold dry and sunny, have seen very little of that.

Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
Yes, from what I'm seeing it's been a very hard winter for you blokes. It just doesn't seem to let up.
The good new is, I guess, spring is coming.

Yeah then we have a lovely summer to look forward too

The mornings are starting to draw in, I was up at 5 minutes past 6, it was still half dark.
And quick as that, there is the odd feather and bits of down in the corners of the loft.
The youngsters are dropping flights. They'll be starting to go a bit rough round the head in a little while.
The seasons go so quick!

I don't know where these youngsters get to, but they disappeared for an hour this morning again. I let them out just after 7 and the last i saw them they were way up and heading north at high speed!. The White flight Thone' and the Diver go with them but the Diver comes back after about 20 minutes. The Thone' cock flies the whole hour with them. Pretty good for a pigeon that was locked up for a year.
I was in the loft when there was a clatter and the youngsters arrived, all panting and wild eyed
