There are different young bird mix feed available, well there is for some that have a good corn store. If I was still flying I would be looking at this mix myself, fully packed with a good mix of pellets. Now some members may not like the pellets, so they have a choice. Our choices may differ, and that what makes the sport.

I don’t think anyone would want to go down the route of just feeding pellets, but to guarantee they are getting the correct amount of carbs, protein, vitamins, minerals etc that you are looking for it would be the only way. Every pellet the same. They way we aimed to do it with the cows on a total mixed ration put through a feeder wagon. The trouble with any mixes is that the birds will pick out the grain that they prefer, may be different for each pigeon. Quick eaters that like the maize may clear most of it up before others get much chance.
In the pet industry there is a mixture of pellets and coarse mixes for both rabbits and guinea pigs. I would always recommend feeding the pellets as they would just pick out what they want in a mix and leave the rest. The trouble is that quite often there are pellets in the mixes and it’s these that they leave.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.

I think there’s about 4-6 per cent pellets in a lot of VL mixtures I am not really mad on them in a mix like that
But I do feed a few chicken pellets to the stock when feeding ybs first early morning feed, and do put a few in my Saturday returning mix so the birds break them down quick to start rebuilding after the race not many though

That’s it
Very popular mix in my area for ybs

I tend to buy Bamfords breed and wean tyoe mix and add barley and some gerry to about 4 weeks out from racing then replace protein with fats/ protein
I still add breed and wean on Sunday about 25 per cent but prefer fats to race on as there full of protein aswell
