I really feel this is a good pointer myself.
The public sale after Arie van den Hoek died in 1979 was a big success. Edmond Tournier (son of Jacq who became manager of the loft in 1976) had to pay lots of money to buy 3 of the best birds on this sale: ‘Vechter’, ‘Weerlicht’ and ‘Zijspoor’. A good move because grizzle birds van den Hoek were the top strain in the world on 500-700 km. Tournier bred all-round pigeons. Edmond and Jacq raced from March until October; from 100-1100 km. Let us look to 1958 for instance. Tournier won head prizes in April on Quievrain (130 km) and had super results in May on Corbeil, Toury and St-Denis (300-400 km). He won 1-4-8-9-10-13…on Orleans in June and top prizes on Cahors, Bordeaux, Vannes and Chateauroux.
Big Winners

Go with this Can you think of uk top sprint lofts that flew a team of grizzle pigeons from 1980 to say 1995
We know fanciers were going to Belgium in the 80’s to visit top lofts so were the Grizzles hid away or were they just not there

Thinking about this a bit more Neil
Earlier I touched on "PITBULL" and we see his Grizzle coming through his mother "HET GOED WIT" of Karel Laenen ("The Good White")
You'll obviously have heard of "BLIZZARD KING KITTEL"
Well he gets his colour from his G.Dam (see below)
I've seen her called "Gouden Grijs" and "Gouden Kittel" - the name matters not cos the ring number is the same
Now, where her colour comes from is a bit more curious
Her father "Kittel-Bolt" (a Blue) is Direct from "Kittel" (Blue WF) and a sister of Bolt (a Blue)
The mother of "Gouden Kittel" is a White hen bred from a son of Van Den Bulck's "Vale As" (He was a Mealy - so there's a bit of colour there). The son of Vale As was mated to a Theo Janssens hen, so I would "speculate" that the added colour comes from this source.

Sorry Neil, I would have to say my answer would be Les Kilshaw. He won with a grizzle from over the pond, then sent it so a 60 mile open race and won that race.Devo1956 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 10:11 amNeil, if you don't mind.
