Volvo have abandoned plans to go "all electric" by 2030, aligning with many other manufacturers who acknowledge the demand for EV' is not there.

I agree mate, we had an accident up the road from me a couple of months back involving an electric car, only a relatively small collision but the electric car went up like a bomb, apparently the fire brigade hate them as once they are on fire you can't put them out !!

I'm afraid all this "going electric" makes my blood boil for so many reasons, it's more political bull xxxx which we just don't have the infrastructure for and looking into the future could cause more environmental issues than they will ever admit.
I will happily be last man standing before I go for an electric car.

Have you had to attend fires of cars with people inside (just happened to be petrol cars) ?

It's a simple Yes/No answer I'm looking for
Why would I attend? You went down the statistics route. The Chinese government have banned the filming of EV fires. The BBC failed to cover the North Sea ferry fire, and the UK government quickly talked down the Luton airport fire, despite the cause being the same EV model as the Liverpool fire. The recent EV caused fire at a car park near a airport in Portugal also failed to get reported by the BBC, see a patten ?
And whilst the numbers of EV v ICE cars maybe be lower due to actual numbers on the road at present, EV pose a bigger risk to health when they are involved.
My original post was not even to you Mike.
I'll stick with petrol. I ain't going to be trapped in an EV when it catches fire. Which I posted because many have died (mainly in Tesla's) when in a total power outage prevented them from getting out of the car when the cars caught fire.
I'm afraid, like everything else, you will only ever see what the powers that be want you to see !!
You will rarely get a true picture, government will always have their own agenda and they will sugar coat it all the way.

Now talking Tesla and bloody Elon Musk
How can you push electric, "Greener" cars with one hand, then spend millions of pounds and God knows how many litres of fuel sending more and more rockets on pointless journeys into space, and as for all the satellites !! How much damage are they causing the environment and to what end

The other thing with all this electric is that it's nothing new, poor old Clive Sinclair got laughed off planet when he brought out his C5 back in the 80s

The supermarkets of course are all going green and buying fleets of electric home delivery Van's, yet will happily fly the produce they sell half way around the planet

Sorry I'll count to ten and chill out now, its Sunday lol

Andy wrote: Wed Mar 05, 2025 8:13 am I have a Ford Kuga hybrid. I love the car. Virtually all you have to do is accelerate, brake and steer. Everything else the car does itself. The other day it had a complete power outage, couldn’t even open the doors with the fob. Managed to get into the car and open the bonnet using the slave key. Attached a booster pack to the battery terminals and away we went. Had the same about 5 months ago but no trouble since. I contacted our local Ford dealer last week and took it over yesterday. They had to do a software upgrade on it lol. They said that there had been a computer blip that had caused the power outage. Should all be sorted now. Comes to something though when you have to update your car software like you would a smart phone or tablet
Going back to your original post Andy, as good as these cars, and technology itself may or may not be, it is frightening that when it comes down to it we are completely at their mercy.

Interesting to see different attitudes to this in different areas of the world

Norway are closing in on the entire country being almost 100% electric!

Perceived worries about fire doesn’t seem to bother the Norwegians

I have never seen so many charging stations on my drive from Oslo to Flam, Norway. It was a six-hour drive all the way. Telsa charges in pull-up areas with snack bars.

I didn’t expect all these responses when I done the original post just saying that I had to update the software on my Kuga hybrid lol.
I must say that having now had the car for nearly two years I am very impressed with it. As I said charging for me is quite difficult as I can’t charge from home. But even though I don’t charge it and just let it do its own thing, recharging it’s battery when braking and when not accelerating I reckon even with its 2.5ltr petrol engine the running cost is about half the cost of my old diesel Kuga. With the 2.5ltr engine it is extremely fast on acceleration if I put my foot down and with all the new technology it’s so easy to drive.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
