When you did it’s different I imagine you had to be treating once you mix with others
How do you trust others
Neil it's a 2 way street, I don't treat for anything, and only like racing at 350 +, I don't like my birds mixing with treated birds, but I don't have an option. In todays world a lot of fanciers prop thier birds health up with medication. I go along with the thought, that my birds will be able to stand up to what they may encounter in the basket, with thier own natural immunity.

Good luck to you Albert I hope your birds fly well this year for you I’m sure they will and I understand your views

Canker to me has to be kept on top of as we can’t see it just like respo another one we can only see when it’s got to another level fanciers don’t see the obvious signs and in many cases we can’t see it anyway and then they think they are clear when there just spreading it in crates to others
Mine go to to stock after 3 year old normally odd never 4 as there either slowing and proved to be a good pigeon and then it’s different they don’t get treated only for worms and canker
So I only need them at there best for a very short period March to Late June then after racing to February they only get wormed so again 7 months of no treatment to February when they are cocci and wormer
March canker and respo
Test kit sent off and I go from there with a test each month but blind treat for respo . Tdc on arrival from a race
When it’s time to race I take no chances with other fanciers birds
Totally understand your views Albert

I think there’s a big difference Albert between blokes ‘propping their birds up with medication’ and those who treat to ensure they get the best from the birds

Birds are kept 52 weeks of the year and the OB season is 12/13 weeks long

That’s 3 months where I need performance, not excuses

Yes there are things I can do to ensure I get the best from my birds, so to my thinking I’d be a bloody fool not to explore that

That doesn’t mean I run to the bottle 7 days a week. I know what I do and why I do it

I analyse everything

This is why i always say, good observation helps in the health of the birds. Looking for those telling signs, it is Paramount.

Hi Jack
Pigeon testing centre are doing a 6 test kit for £72 currently only covering cocci / worms / canker / fungus
But least it does that leaving only respo to deal with unless you get a dramatic loss in form then they offer other services
I don’t know if there the best but always been ok with me
One year I was 6th then 4th club first two weeks so I thought what’s going on here sent a test kit off nothing wrong so after a chat I closed my loft up a little more and bang I was back winning so I thought they could have easily sold me something if they were bent

Thing there Neil is after 2 weeks you were already hunting for the answer

A lesser flier would just keep going week after week not recognising where the issue lay

I can tell it’s a bloody minefield I’ve walked into and the only way forward is considered step by considered step. I really appreciate the insights, thank you.
