Racing 2023

As it stands our club is currently flying with a newly formed North Road Federation which is only in its 2nd season. We only raced youngbirds with them but for those of us who sent it proved to be very successful, the spread of winners through both club and fed was better with far more members taking the spoils rather than the same old names week after week and losses were far fewer. As you know my youngbird season didn't start very well as I was hit with a sickness that killed half my team, however I started the season with 14 youngsters, I raced 7 races out to 150miles and finished the season with just the one loss, although sadly I have since lost one of them to the hawk
Now the thing is there are still a fair few club members who didn't send North Road with youngsters who will be pushing to turn the club South again for next season.
North Road has always been and will still be my preference and I am hoping that the CSCFC will expand its boundaries so I can join and race with them as they are staying North Road, currently their boundaries stop about 12 miles from me !!! However I also need to prepare for the likely hood that they won't and that our Club ends up turning South again in which case to get any distance racing in I will need to be in the position where I can send with the BICC or BBC across the water. So to give myself the option I have registered with a vet and I have got my CPH number, a number of us around here have registered with the same vet Mr Dave Parsons (who is from your neck of the woods Andy, Trowbridge) who to be fair so far has been brilliant, he has been very helpful and keeps us up to date with all that is going on including avian flu. Anyway 10 of us have got together between Littlehampton and Brighton and arranged to have our vet visit with Dave on the 19th of January at a cost of £60 per person which considering it's quite a distance (around 80 miles) for him to come to Sussex and then around 16 miles between the first and last member to be visited is pretty fair. I agree that it is a bit of ball ache having to go through this procedure but once its done I will have the option to go North and South for 2023

There is a proposition in to the CSCFC again this year to extend the radius, there are actually 3 different propositions, which would allow you to join. I’ll have to look at what the difference is between them. Although the same proposition was put in last year and failed I feel that it could get through this time as this is the only classic going North and would certainly increase the birdage and membership.
I have resigned from the NFC but will stay a member of the BICC & BBC. I could in theory get my CPH number and race the channel next year without having a vet visit as the ruling is that you have a vet visit within a year of getting a CPH number. Which would now be after next season has finished. I’m not going to though as I’m happy to just race North next year and wait to see if anything changes.

Fingers crossed it gets through this time then Andy I will happily just race North too but have to keep many options open just incase our club turn South again !!!

On the 31st of October our club Secretary informed all members that our first meeting was to be held on the 8th November and as suspected a proposal had been put in for the club to turn South again for the 2023 season so for the last week it's been a bit like canvassing for an up and coming election with various rumours being spread and tales being told to try to sway the vote. There was a good strong turnout for the meeting and surprise surprise at times the meeting got got quite heated, the really sad thing is that some people go that little bit too far and things get a bit personal. Now the really silly thing is that the member who put the proposition in wasn't able to attend the meeting so had no vote along with at 2 other South Road stalwarts (you'd have thought they'd have planned that a bit better !! However the vote was taken and with 4 abstainers, 4 votes for and 13 votes against so we stay North for 2023 we also then voted on a second proposal to stay in the Southcoast federation as well and form a South road section but this was a non stater and soon got thrown out so a vote was taken to leave the Southcoast fed which was done with heavy hearts as the club had belonged to this fed for many years but due to the lack of distance racing available the majority decided we could no longer stay with them.
I can now start to plan for next season and will also consider whether to carry on and get my vet certificate or not

It was very convenient for those of us wanting to stay North mate but a blow for those wanting to turn South again as it lost them 3 votes !! As it turned out they would have still lost the vote but you'd have thought they would have come down to put their case and fight their corner !!

Good to see your staying North Trev. Hopefully the proposition to extend the radius of the CSCFC will go through. I’m still hoping to get at least some training in with the Southampton or Solent NR feds. I could end up racing against you again after all these years lol.
