I was sadly informed today of the passing of another old Worthing pigeon club member Mr Melvin Gregory.
Melvin Joined Worthing back in the early 80s in partnership with his neighbours son (my best mate at school) Andy Handley, they were new to the sport and had pigeons from our Dad and a local fancier from Brighton Mr Kenny Abbot. He left Worthing who were then flying North Road in the late 80s to fly South Road a route that he has flown ever since. I can't remember exactly when his partnership with Andy ended but he flew under his own right for some years before going into Partnership with Mr Colin Virgo. Over the years the partnership has enjoyed a fair amount of success at both Club and federation level. They joined the Littlehampton club last year and straight away hit the top and enjoyed a pretty successful old bird season, being a die hard South roader they didn't race young birds on the North with us. At this point we don't know what Colin's plans are as the lofts and birds are at Melvins, hopefully Colin will find a way to keep on flying and maybe even consider turning them North. That we will have to wait and see but for now :-
RIP Melvin
Sympathy and condolences to his wife, children and grandchildren.
RiP Melvin Gregory
Sad news. I remember him joining the club Trev. Was he in partnership with Dave Burchell at one point? I remember his old loft in Lancing. I had a couple of pigeons off him over the years including a very nice Busscheart cock. He joined the Wigmore club when they broke away from the Worthing club.
RIP Melvin.
RIP Melvin.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
Blimmy Andy "Dave Burchell" now there's a name I've not heard for many years !! He could well have been Andy as I know Melvin did like flying in partnerships that way he didn't have to keep putting his hand his pocket lolAndy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 14, 2022 10:33 pm Sad news.
