Oldest cocks in my lofts
Both are 2006 birds and there blood is in all my grizzles the pied is mainly responsible for the coloured ones and the Jannsen is the one for the darker grizzles

They look great Buster. Are either of them still filling eggs. I had an old Van Hee cock that was still filling his eggs at 16. So they will probably be in the pedigrees of a couple of the ones I have from you?

To be fair I don't know the pied lost his partner lastyear or year before I did post about losing the grandmother of the loft at the time and the grizzle had some eggs with his new wifey as he lost his a while ago, but I sacrificed them trying to get some babies for Trev

I’m going to go through them soon. I will then be able to photograph your ones, when I find out which ones they are lol. Of course I know the 2 blue pied cocks and the dark grizzle hen but not sure about the other 3.

Speaking of old cock birds, I was reading one of Ad Schaerlaeckens' articles on his website. In it he describes a trip to Japan. At one loft he visited he saw old pigeons with Dutch and Belgian rings flying free. Pigeons from famous flyers like Eijerkamp, that would have cost a lot of money.
When Ad asked about that, he was told that the pigeons were old and had stopped filling the eggs. So they were simply set free.
Many flew away, but some stayed, and started fertilizing the eggs again!
Isn't nature great!

I must say that I have never liked having prisoners and am glad that I no longer have any that don’t go out. My oldest 2 hens here at 9 & 7 have both laid on time again. In fact both are broken pigeons and the 7 year old I only got last year. Had 4 youngsters from her last year. Have just had her first 2 hatch this year under a foster pair and she went back down a couple of days ago.

I've got a some old cocks here that were Des Coulters, I don't really have any idea how old they are as in his later years Des was one for putting any rings he had available on his babies especially if he was only using them for breeding. One of them has 2002 ring on, one a 2013 and two 2014, they are paired to 3 hens that have 2014 rings on and one that has a 2015 ring. All the birds do look and handle well but you can see some age in their eyes !! The 2002 bird was paired to a 2014 hen, they have only bred 2 youngsters from 3 rounds. The 2013 Cock paired to the 2015 hen haven't filled any
Of the other two pairs one had filled 6 from 6 eggs while the other have filled 5 from 6. I have tried breaking these birds now and have sadly lost two of the hens, all the 4 cocks are now flying out along with one of the hens, the other hen hasn't ventured out yet. The frustrating thing is that Des's loft was only a couple of hundred yards over the road from me, there is nothing there now so where those two hens have gone is anyones guess, they were both on my house roof the day after I let them out (last Saturday) but I've seen no sign of them since.
