The birds don’t seem to care

Talk about anything racing pigeon related here aslong as there isnt a section for it.

Only letting mine out once or twice a week at the moment, not lost anything for a few weeks 🤞🤞
My birds did enjoy a nice fly and bath in the sleety rain we had this afternoon, they seem to prefer bathing on the colder days.
My water has been frozen every morning for the last couple of days :? :? :?

Andy wrote: Sat Dec 10, 2022 7:47 am Yesterday was a lovely sunny but cold day. The temperature didn’t get above 4c. The birds haven’t been out for a while and in this cold weather are certainly eating more. I decided to let them have a bit of exercise and let them out. I put the bath down also. They came out and had a good fly and a bath. They certainly didn’t seem to be bothered that the water was cold. After their bath most just laid out in the sun drying off for a while before going back into the loft.
2 days ago my neighbour let his have a bath they was lying on top of his loft when bang a female hawk took a cock off top
I have had a huge peregrine falcon here the last two days, coming in very low and scaring the pigeons up. She must be trying to get them flying so she can pick one off. Trouble is they take off and get above her and she cant get at them. She must have a nest somewhere around here. The crows and magpies chase her away.
It's a big hawk! :o
Thankfully I don't have a peregrine too close to me, they are around within a few miles on either side but don't seem to give me a problem, not that I know of anyway 🤔
Those and Goshawks are a real threat during the racing season though, it's like running the gauntlet for the poor birds.

Good to see you not losing any now mate, yes strange how they prefer to bath in cold rather than warm weather

I wonder if its because the feathers dry out too quickly in the warmer weather !!!

I think you probably don’t have to much problem with the peregrine at home Trev because your in a relatively open area. The falcons rely on surprise attacks from a height. They would have trouble getting close to yours before getting spotted. The sparrowhawk on the other hand attacks while their on the ground or loft coming in low and fast undetected.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
