Christmas orders

A while ago Andy told us about his suppliers wanting orders placed for Christmas delivery.
It seems absurd.
This morning I opened my email at work and look at the fourth one down

Silly wanting orders this early especially something like confectionery, but in saying that does it have to be imported or do you produce it there

We’ve got another company that we have to have the Christmas order in for by the end of this week/month.

It does seem ridiculous to me that they want orders this early as we've barely seen the back of last Christmas Do you get discounts if you order early ??? I know on the farm with things like fertiliser (which you'd aim to use in March) if you bought it in October the price per tonne was considerably cheaper.
When I worked for a bespoke packaging company many years ago our customers (mainly cosmetic firms) would be discussing their Christmas requirements now with the aim for us to start packing them in May/June as they wanted them ready to go out onto the store shelves in September.

A lot of chocolate and other confectionery is made in Australia and New Zealand. Then there's products from Europe and the UK as well.
And of course more and more cheap stuff from China.

Yes Trev there is a discount on orders done early. The other thing is nowadays is that a lot of Christmas stock is made to order as no one wants loads of left over stock. So we need to order early to guarantee getting what we want. Deliveries won’t be made until mid October.
We did send off another Christmas order yesterday.
