Do many members use a lot of barley during the moult some of the best conditioned pigeons i have seen were moulted on 75 per cent barley but I have always be scared to go that heavy

I use a lot of Barley in fact once racing finishes and I've used up all surplus mixes they get 100% barley and they will moult fantastic on it, just don't believe anyone who says they won't get fat on it, trust me if you're not careful they'll end up right porkers

I myself have never bought a bag of corn with the words moulting on it. Birds will moult on nearly ANY corn. I just feed the same corn when the birds are moulting. I think fanciers get too hung up on what the birds do naturally. I'd back my birds in any show against those who spend £s on 'special mixes' and supplements to help their birds though the moult.
I don’t think I mentioned buying a bag of moulting mix kingking wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 4:34 pmI myself have never bought a bag of corn with the words moulting on it. Nice corn . Not to keen on sunflower in shells but they do produce clean cornDevo1956 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 8:04 pm It is also used to speed up the molting process, by feeding only barley for a few days...the birds that are still prepared to breed will lose their drive and go into molt.
To be honest Neil, i never used barley myself, i would always use this mix.

Neil, my own thoughts on feeding the birds. It's a 365 day sport, so i have always used the best nutrition. For racing, resting, molting and breeding, but that was just my way. Others may differ and that is their choice.NeilA wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 8:44 pmNice corn .
