We were out in the garden this afternoon and i noticed an egg shell in the aviary.
'What the?" I said.
Can't be, I thought. But there it was. So I had a look and there was a baby in a nest and another one well chipped.
I got the book and there it was, first egg 07/11 and second egg 09/11
So the first egg was 17 days and the second egg 15 days!
I know they can hatch a bit quicker when it is warm but 15 days, never seen anything like that.
I've got two other pairs on eggs laid a day or two after those. Better keep an eye on them

I am spending quite a lot of time with the pigeons these days, firstly because I can, and also because I am slowing down a bit. Retirement is setting in and I am starting to listen to the body a bit more. It took a while to unlearn just keeping going.
The pigeons are really responding. The slatey Heremans cock whose eggs hatched this afternoon was funny. I saw the big part of the shell in the aviary. When I was cleaning out I stood up and was at eye level with him. He had the top of the egg in his beak and was leaning out showing it to me. I said 'Got a baby!" He was very pleased and strutted a lap then went and dropped it through the mesh. The hen, 666, or Tay Tay as she is now known, flew up and walked past me muttering to herself.
It's all good for my health, I am sure of it.

On the same note, the grizzle Thone and Billion Baby hatched one this afternoon. She laid on 9th and 11th so it's 16 days for the first one.
I just happened to get a glimpse of it and quietly lifted him up and saw the other one was not hatched yet. I didn't look again, they are both a bit grumpy if you put your hand in the box.
So 16 days. It seems the spell of warm weather we had is pushing them along.

No, Devo, the cold and wet is no good for the bad lungs. I am a million percent better in the warm and dry.

A while back I wrote that I had eggs hatch extremely quickly.
Well, this afternoon I found the big grizzle on a baby. The other one was not hatched and I wasn't going to poke around, the grizz is a bit of a big idiot, he would stomp on the baby. But I guess it's chipping.
But they were laid on 20 and 22 December, so that's 15 and 17 days again!
We've had a run of warm weather and a couple of hot days and that seems to be pushing them along.
