This is a subject that i really think is important of the sport, over the years of being part of the sport. This subject not only observing the birds, but also people around birds.
Movement around the loft is a tell tale sign, it is a mirror image for the birds from you. Stay calm and don't grab at the birds, let the birds come to you. Sit down in the corner
of the loft, you will soon start picking up little things about your birds. Just remember every living thing, is an individual and we all have our different ways.
I like to stand back and observe, all tasks being carried out in the loft. How the birds perform while tasks are being carried out. Their reaction to every task being carried out,
a calm loft will always be a happy home for the birds. And routine plays a major part in racing pigeons, also a major part of your own life as the keeper.
So prepare well, take notes and plan ahead. you will find the bond with your birds will help. The partnership becomes much stronger.
Observation at all times
Murray, I stood back and watched you many times on my trip. It was plain to see your body movement, just flows and the birds are very comfortable around you. The bond you have was plain to see,
all tasks of the loft was in routine.

Mmm, The definition of a pigeon loft is, a building where pigeons are kept.
My definition is, a place where pigeons live. It is their home, I am always a guest. I always try to behave as such.
I never open the door and barge in. I open the door and sing out, ' hee'es de birds" or weee's de birds' or similar.
Just by announcing my arrival they seem less likely to be upset.
Greetings from the land down under.
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for verily, he shall not be disappointed.

I would be surprised if any fancier was like a bull in China shop in the loft
Having said that the best pigeons still beat the shit ones no matter what
Finding the good ones is the key
Different ways on Observation, not only around what is happening around your loft. But also finding out about the way your birds find the route home from racing or training.

We are told a lot of things as novices, but does it stay with us. I have kept this in my mindset from a early age in life.NeilA wrote: ↑Mon Apr 14, 2025 12:21 pmDon’t we all do that Devo surely we are told that as novicesDevo1956 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 14, 2025 9:23 am This is a subject that i really think is important of the sport, over the years of being part of the sport. Well if we rush around with the pigeons and scare them after being told not to we must be pretty thick or even having any form of common sense we know not to do thatDevo1956 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 14, 2025 12:43 pmWe are told a lot of things as novices, but does it stay with us. It’s very basic make them relaxed near you I would be shocked if people don’t do that near there birds
Well over the past years, I hear they must have caught it in the basket. Again observation at the marking station, checking the other birds of different members. Can only help in the sport, so it is not just about
observing your own birds.
