This is the time that if there is a window in the weather, they have to be ready at the liberation site. Split seconds can change the whole race, good birds will always master their flight home.

I thought summer in the UK was usually on a Tuesday..... :D

I quite agree mate, we do mollycoddle the birds these days 😕 I don't know how the wild birds, or indeed nature itself, cope 😬
It's not as if it's a long race, we are only talking 108miles for crying out load 😬😕

Well after a long debate on the federation group telegram this morning it's been decided that we leave things as they are and the birds will go when the conveyer and race controller think it's right to do so 🤠👍
I know everyone blames the cost on why they want to avoid holdovers, but it seems to me that the modern widowhood flier just doesn't want their birds in the basket for more than the one night !!

Isn't it more the case of making use of the technology available to us these days ?

It is mate but sadly I'm not sure that the modern technology is any more accurate than the old methods !!!
You can look at several different apps and they all give you different answers 😕😬 how can that be when they all use the same satellite's 🤔😬
The old farmers and gardeners used to predict the weather better than technology does today !!

They pretty much got it right for Eastern Scotland today. Fraserburgh hold over due to low cloud and large bands of rain along flight path. Trouble is convoyers can’t win, if they put them up when there’s rain about and it’s a bad race they get vilified, if they delay basketing by a day and the weather turns out better than expected they equally vilified.
