Interesting, thank you. Bit technical for my brain but I did get a test kit through with my meds from Tollisan today so might use that and send it off.Devo1956 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 7:43 am Well Pete, the only video i could find is on doing a test. I hope it helps you.

Chlamydia treatment?
I got some amoxicillin in powder form. I was hoping for tablets but I think blind treating will be a bit risky. She was eating well again today, but then most of the time hunched and her wings shaking like she was shivering. Wattles clean, throat clear still.NeilA wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 10:50 pm I’m not sure it is chlamydia Pete so maybe get a test but that’s not a £15 job
I think doxycycline is prescribed for it if it is
I had a pigeon reported two years ago 40 miles away a good one flown out I picked it up in awful condition from a non fancier I thought it would be dead by the time I got home or next morning at best
it couldn’t stand dropping like green water
I used amoxicillin and in 3 days it was standing and eating

Well if you got a kit and she’s eating then send the kit off
Might come a time why your waiting your have to act
What kind of tests is your kit for ?
Why are you concerned about over dose does your amoxicillin not have instructions or percentages ?

As Neil said early in this thread, Doxycyclene is usually prescribed for acute Chlamydia.NeilA wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 9:52 pm I don’t know where your getting these things from Pete you need to know what your giving mate as to much can be dangerous to little no good dont get caught up into bunging loads of stuff into them make sure its the right product at the correct dose

But caution is needed. Like Trichamonas, pigeons practically always carry a low number of Chlamydia bacteria. It's only if they are a bit stressed or run down or the loft hygiene is poor that it can appear as disease.
Young birds build healthy immunity by being repeatedly exposed to low levels of the bacteria. So treating with antibiotics is not recommended.
Of course Chlamydia is one of the main causes of respiratory disease. During the racing season pigeons need to be treated if they have it. But that's a different thing.

A little bit of knowledge can be dangerous, Devo,

Be wary of microscopes. I know blokes who get so engrossed with peering at droppings they stop looking at the pigeons.....
